ABOUT CANDLEPIN BOWLING

Introduced around 1885, candlepin bowling was the first bowling game. It features pins that are 10" high and 1" in diameter, giving the appearance of candles—thus the name candlepin.

The current size of the pins we are familiar with today are 15 3/4" tall, 1 3/4" wide at each end, and 2 15/16" at the center. The balls used during candlepin bowling are a maximum of 4 1/2" in diameter with a weight maximum of
2 lbs., 7 oz.

BASICS OF CANDLEPING BOWLING

Start by standing comfortably with the opposite foot of the throwing arm in front of you and face the pins. As you approach the line, swing up behind you, bend at the knee, and roll the ball straight down the alley. When following through, keep your balance and keep your eye on the target.
